Product Description
Sam and Dean Winchester seek out the person or force responsible for their mother's death and their father's disappearance while investigating strange

Amazon.com
Call it Kolchak: The Night Stalker, The College Years or Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Boys, but the horror series Supernatural delivers some of the most satisfying small-screen scares in recent memory. The premise is deceptively simple: brothers Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki from Gilmore Girls and Jensen Ackles, both appealing) travel the darker corners of the American landscape in search of their father, who's gone missing while hunting the malevolent forces that lead to the death of their mother. In the course of their search, the siblings encounter a host of otherworldly creatures, including vampires, ghosts, and witches, as well as such distinctly American phenomena as the urban-legend favorite the Hook ("Hookman"), monsters from Native American mythology ("Wendigo"), and fearful figures from children's games ("Bloody Mary"). Supernatural's integration of elements from American pop culture and folklore, combined with its skilled cast and crew (creator/co-writer Erik Kripke delivered 2005's Boogeyman, while director/executive producer David Nutter is a veteran of The X-Files and Millennium), and better-than-average attempts at atmosphere and suspense place the series well above the other spookshow programs that arrived on networks at about the same time (Invasion, Night Stalker), and should hold considerable appeal for fans of frightful fare.

The six-disc set contains all 22 episodes of the debut season, with commentary by Ackles and Padalecki on "Phantom Traveler" and Nutter, Kripke, and producer Peter Johnson on the pilot episode; two making-of documentaries (one on the show itself, and the other on its stars), as well as a brace of unaired scenes and a gag reel round out the set. For those with DVD-ROM capabilities, the set also includes a link to a web site which offers a sneak preview at season 2 and the pilot script, among other bonus features. --Paul Gaita

4 out of 5 stars A solid boxed set   July 5, 2010
M. LACHANCE (Seattle,wa)
This collection contains 22 episodes of the series Supernatural. The show is one that gets progressively better and is mostly(sans about 3-5) self contained episodes. These self contained episodes are for the most part decent. There are 2 that are outright terrible. Other than that though, there are about eight that are outright phenomenal. and the other 12 are as I said decent to good.
The acting in the show for the most part is rather rough. It gets better as the series goes but it is watchable. The direction on most of the episodes only serves to hide the low budget, but they do a good enough job to create what is the best horror television series on air. The writing except for the two terrible episodes is fairly strong.
The box set looks spectacular. filling most of the black levels so that they are no longer grainy as they were in their standard def counterpart. The visual is the reason to upgrade from the DVD. The extras are about an 8/10 on both and this set only contains one new feature that isn't really that amazing. But overall the features here are stronger than some of the future sets.
I'd recommend this set for fans of Blu Ray, fans of Horror television, and fans of entertaining mythologies.
By the way Jeffery Dean Morgan is as per usual amazing in this movie.
I urge you to check it out.

4 out of 5 stars Creepy Fun   June 28, 2010
SciFiChick (Fishers, IN USA)
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester are brothers who are on a journey to find their missing father, who was hunting the evil that killed their mother. Along the way, the brothers find themselves hunting the very things that their father faced including popular urban legends, vampires, ghosts, and other paranormal monsters.

A decidedly dark and grisly series, Supernatural appeals to a wide range of horror and thriller fans. Scary and violent, this series isn't for the faint of heart. Padalecki and Ackles are fantastic actors that are put in a shocking and bizarre situation each week, sometimes getting to play beyond their own characters. Each episode is a nightmare/freak-of-the-week, full of heart-pounding suspense and chills. And the stunning visual effects are impressive for a television series. Now each of the 22 episodes is available in HD, making the picture ultra-clear and ultra-scary.

Special Features Include:
- The Devil's Road Map: Interactive Map Guide to Season One's Urban Legends and Unusual Facts
- Paley Festival Panel Discussion Featuring the Cast and Creators
- Unaired/Extended Scenes
- Commentary on the Pilot by Series Creator Eric Kripke, Director David Nutter and Producer Peter Johnson
- Commentary on Phantom Traveler by Co-Stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles
- Two additional featurettes: Day in the Life of Jared and Jensen and Supernatural: Tales from the Edge of Darkness
- Gag Reel

5 out of 5 stars Helps fill the void left by "The X-Files" without the bureaucracy   June 21, 2010
Haunted Flower (Indianapolis)

Supernatural Season One on Blu-Ray
22 Episodes on 4 Discs being released June 15, 2010

"Supernatural" the series begins with the origin story of young Dean and Sam's mother's mysterious death and their father's obsession with solving it by hunting for supernatural activity. Years later when their father disappears, they take up his journal in hopes of finding him and some answers but end up taking up where he left off solving the mysterious of the paranormal.

The series has all the fun and creepiness of "The X-Files" minus romantic tension (with a substitution of sibling rivalry) and the absence of bureaucracy and Cigarette Smoking Man. Dean and Sam hit the road with reckless abandon drifting from place to place surviving on money they make hustling people at pool and poker so they can continue the hunt for answers.

Sam (Jared Padalecki) left his college to go on this road trip with his brother after a mysterious incident with his girlfriend passing the exact same way as his mother and being driven into the same obsession as his father (Jeffery Dean Morgan). Dean (Jensen Ackles) is an obedient son with a bit of swagger whose quest in the supernatural has been ongoing his entire life. In this formula, Sam is Luke Skywalker and Dean is Han Solo and their classic muscle car is the Millennium Falcon. Their relationship is constantly being tested through these ghost hunts and the buddy road trip vibe serves the series well.

Padalecki and Ackles have an easy going relationship and chemistry that ties each individual episode together. Each episode is like a mini-movie, but the fluctuations of their interactions create the overall arc of the tension in their family and search for their father and their mother's killer.

The urban legends are fantastic with everything from Bloody Mary to the man with the hook that kills the boyfriend, to the ghost woman getting picked up on the side of the road wanting to go home, to a freaky scarecrow god in a field! Doubtless, there is something for everyone here and thrills and chills galore.

Bonus Features:

There are over five hours of additional content! Tons and tons of extras for your viewing pleasure.

Supernatural: Tales from the Edge of Darkness is purely a making-of featurette about how the series was created, the casting of the two stars, and what challenges the show faced in shaping the concept to get picked up. A Day in the Life of Jared & Jensen follows them as they explore the catering table and go through filming in an episode. There is a Paley Festival Panel Discussion featuring Cast & Crew talking about the first season of "Supernatural" and answering questions from the audience and discussing how the brothers were cast.

Devil's Road Map: Interactive Map Guide to Season One's Urban Legends and Unusual facts is the best feature on this set because you can go episode by episode and watch interviews about how and why a certain story was developed, myths about actual local legends in a given area, and if you click on haunted icons, there is an easter egg surprise. There is also access to pages of their dad's journal.

Commentary on the "Pilot" by series creator Eric Kripke, director David Nutter, and producer Peter Johnson reveals what true nerds they all are and how much they love their work investigating all these urban legends and old stories and finding ways to incorporate them into the show. They talk about all the different drafts of the pilot and how it evolved over time. Commentary on "Phantom Traveler" by co-stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles consists of the two of them joking a lot but also talking about the acting perspective in creating the episode. There are a bunch of Unaired/Extended Scenes throughout the discs and a gag reel on Disc four.
